Snow White (2024 film)

Marc Webb will be directing the next American musical fantasy picture Snow White (2024 film), which Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson wrote the screenplay for. The movie is a live-action remake of the 1937 Disney film of the same name, which was based on an 1812 Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Gal Gadot will play the Evil Queen, with Rachel Zegler playing the title role.

In October 2016, Wilson was introduced as a screenwriter for Walt Disney Pictures’ initial announcement of intentions for a Snow White remake. Webb began negotiations to helm the movie in May 2019 and officially took over as director in September 2019.

Snow White (2024 film) Preparation and development

Erin Cressida Wilson is in discussions to write the script for Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Variety reported on October 31, 2016. Marc Webb was reportedly in negotiations to helm the movie on May 30, 2019, and on September 29, 2019, it was announced that he will be doing so, with Cressida Wilson revealed to have written the screenplay. According to a source from May 29, 2021, Webb was still attached to helm the movie but would not get started until later that year because of his workload with the TV show Just Beyond.

Casting

Rachel Zegler was hired in the lead role in June 2021, while Gal Gadot was cast as the Evil Queen in November.

Greta Gerwig’s participation in authoring the script was revealed later that month. In an interview with ExtraTV on December 7, 2021, Rachel Zegler disclosed that the 2021 version of Snow White will be far more powerful than the original. For the live-action adaptation, a new casting call has been made for a young girl to play a younger version of Snow White. On January 12, 2022, it was revealed that Andrew Burnap has been chosen to play the lead male part of Jonathan, a brand-new character who will sing and who is referred to as being “Robin Hood-like” and serving as Snow White’s love interest. At the 2022 Denver Fan Expo, Martin Klebba announced that he would play Grumpy in the movie. Klebba had previously played similar dwarf roles in other “Snow White”-related works, including Friday in the 2001 made-for-television movie Snow White: The Fairest of Them All and Butcher in the 2012 fantasy comedy Mirror Mirror.

Snow White (2024 film) Filming

The initial start date for Snow White’s filming in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was March 2020. The COVID-19 epidemic, however, forced the postponement of production until the middle or end of 2020. Later, it was declared in writing that filming will start in 2022. It was revealed in August 2021 that filming will take place in the UK from March to July 2022. Set images from the March 2022 filming, which started the week of the 14th, were posted online.

On March 15, 2022, a fire broke out at Pinewood Studios, destroying the production set. The stage was apparently under construction when a tree reportedly caught fire, igniting a massive wildfire. Disney source corroborated Variety’s claim that “No filming was ongoing.” The filming schedule was also changed to allow Zegler to make a presentation on behalf of her West Side Story coworkers on March 27, 2022, at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Zegler was there at the ceremony when Gadot started shooting her sequences. Gadot disclosed that she will do both singing and dancing in the movie during a podcast interview with Forbes. Gadot declared that she has finished filming her sequences on April 22, 2022.

Music

The 2019 Disney version of Aladdin will have new songs written by music songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who previously provided the words for two of the tracks. Whistle While You Work will be featured in the movie, according to Rachel Zegler, who announced this in September 2022.

Marketing

During Disney’s 2022 D23 Expo presentation on September 9, 2022, a 30-second first-look teaser and first-look pictures of the movie were shown. There were brief glimpses of numerous significant locations, including the moss-covered woodland, the Queen’s castle, and Snow White’s cabin in the woods. There were also brief flashes of Zegler as Snow White, Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Snow White’s hand falling as the poisoned fruit fell alongside her. Gadot remarked on her performance as the Evil Queen, saying it was “quite unlike to anything she had previously done. However, she found it to be really “delightful” to “get under her skin” because she is used to playing the opposite end of where the heart should be “. Additionally, the movie’s title logo was made public. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Zegler condemned the “jokes” being made about the movie’s contemporary modifications.
