Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules Storyline
Greg’s parents announce that they are bringing Manny with them for a weekend getaway. Utilizing this opportunity, Rodrick tells Greg that they are holding a party together. Rowley accepts Greg’s invitation to help, but they both wind up doing all the work while Rodrick observes. During the party, he locks them in the basement, but Greg manages to unlock the door and capture images of the event for extortion. When they are released in the morning, Rowley heads home while Greg confronts Rodrick about what transpired. They unexpectedly receive a call from their mother Susan informing them that Manny is ill and that they should return home immediately.
The brothers immediately clear up the home and evict any lingering visitors before replacing Rodrick’s door with the bathroom door, which is permanently inscribed with the phrase “Rodrick Rules.” However, Frank subsequently discovers that the door does not lock securely.
Following the event, Greg requests that Rodrick provide him counsel in exchange for his assistance in cleaning up the party. Rodrick relents and informs him about his “Rodrick Rules,” which deal with getting things done without exerting too much effort. Greg grows agitated soon, but is soothed when Rodrick teaches him how to play the drums. Greg meets his other Löded Diper bandmates, one of which is a 30-something-year-old male, who is preparing to compete in a talent event. Greg is there as well, but he is aiding Rowley with his magic show, which he does not believe will be a success. Frank feels the boys are keeping something from him, but Susan is relieved to see them getting along. When Frank inquires about the door, Greg conceals his face and states that he accidentally banged it too hard, which explains why it does not lock correctly. Frank and Susan are leaving again for the weekend, but this time they will leave the boys with Grandpa in the nursing home, which Rodrick appears to be looking forward to.
Rodrick tells the elderly home that the board games include a lot of mom dollars that they may use at home. He offers some to Greg, but his clothes get soaked throughout the game, forcing him to change into the lobby restroom. Greg winds up in the women’s room by mistake, where he is accused of being a peeping tom. A pursuit around the nursing home begins, but he eventually returns to his room. Later, Grandpa tells Greg that he knows he and Rodrick didn’t want to attend, but he admires the fact that they spend time together, something Frank fails to do with his siblings.
He needs to complete his life science assignment and runs to Rodrick for assistance. He offers him his old life science project in exchange for some mother money. Greg does so, but when he gets to school, he learns it’s a botched project involving plants sneezing.
Greg confronts Rodrick with his blackmail and wants payment in mum dollars. However, he runs into Susan, who sees the images, and she and Frank chastise both guys. One of Rodrick’s penalties is that he can no longer perform in the talent show, despite the fact that Greg is still obliged to perform with Rowley. in the case of a real-world occurrence.
They take the phone away from Rodrick, but Rowley transmits the images by accident. To Greg’s amazement, the tale at school was twisted to be about Greg winning the grand prize in a bingo game and making a dramatic escape, making him famous. Greg, on the other hand, is still anyone because he has to do the talent show with Rowley, but just before entering, Löded Diper approaches Greg about being their new drummer, since their replacement drummer Larry loves magic and would not mind swapping places with him.
Greg begins to doubt whether or not he should drum, but after Rodrick makes a harsh remark to him, he agrees. When Greg notices Rodrick leaving the concert angry, he approaches him and says that he merely wanted him to be proud of him and was concerned that they would grow apart. Rodrick assures Greg that he cares for him and that they will continue to hang out. Despite the fact that Rodrick is still grounded, Greg reinstates him as a drummer and returns to Löded Diper. Frank and Susan lengthen Greg’s punishment, but Greg believes it’s worth it, and Grandpa compliments Frank on raising two fine brothers while Susan enthusiastically dances to the band’s song. Rowley’s magic act wins the competition, and Löded Diper receives a larger audience due to Susan. Greg and Rodrick’s connection improves despite their disagreements.
