A new American animated movie titled Elio is being made by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios.

On March 1, 2024, it is planned for theatrical release as Pixar’s 28th animated film.

While his mother Olga works on top-secret research to analyze extraterrestrial transmissions, Elio tries to fit in before being transported by aliens and selected to be Earth’s cosmic envoy.

At December 23 Expo 2022, a convention-like event where the studio teased its next projects, Disney displayed a wide range of items. There were sneak peeks for confirmed films like Disenchanted and Elemental as well as unexpected confirmations of works like Inside Out 2. A few brand-new things were also unveiled, such as Elio from Pixar.

The animation, which is being directed by Adrian Molina of Coco, will follow the titular 11-year-old (voiced by Yonas Kibreab of Obi-Wan Kenobi) as he tries to fit in at school. Elio’s mother, who manages a top-secret military project and is occasionally charged with analyzing a weird signal, is voiced by America Ferrera, who went onstage to share the narrative elements and first-look photograph. The Superstore star described Olga as being “super-confident, brilliant, and can hold her own in any setting.” “As a mother, she talks to me in so many different ways. Of course, I can finally utilize it now that I have a degree in advanced mathematics. Not on Google.” Mary Alice Drumm from the film Brave will serve as producer.

Although Disney Pixar has not set an official release date, Elio is anticipated to hit theaters in the spring of 2024. At D23, there were many more announcements than just this one. Starring in the Pixar sci-fi adventure “Elio” is America Ferrera

For her Emmy-winning performance as Betty Suarez in “Ugly Betty,” Ferrera is most recognized. She also co-produced, directed, and appeared in multiple episodes of the renowned NBC comedy “Superstore” from 2015 to 2021. Other notable appearances include “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” from 2005 and the Apple TV+ miniseries “WeCrashed” from this year. She will play the lead role opposite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Greta Gerwig’s eagerly awaited live-action “Barbie” film next year. Ferrera has performed the voice of Astrid in the three DreamWorks Animation movies titled “How to Train Your Dragon.”

The studio previewed a number of upcoming projects at the Friday animation session, “Elio” being one of them. The studio also unveiled trailers for Peter Sohn’s next movie “Elemental,” which is about individuals created of the four elements who live in a metropolis. The film is slated to hit cinemas on June 16, 2023. The business also revealed “Inside Out 2,” a follow-up to the 2015 animated film starring Amy Poehler.

About Elio character

In the movie, a young child named Elio is mistaken for the cosmic ambassador for the planet Earth after being transported across the cosmos. The panel claims that Elio, who is 11, is an “inside youngster” and that Olga works for a specific organization. Other storyline information has not yet been made public.

Working on Coco took up the final four and a half years of Molina’s life, and she previously told Deadline that it was one of the most intimate tales she had ever been a part of conveying. “I’m really happy to have made it to the other side from that perspective. It’s almost impossible for me to put into words how I’ve felt about how people have responded to the movie, whether it’s because the character reminds them of someone they love but may not be in contact with, or because they’re Latino and have never seen their experience and families portrayed on screen in a way that communicates the pride they have in where they’re from.”

The goal of this movie was to accurately depict things, and as a result, Molina said, “they see themselves on the screen with all of the respect, pride, and love that they have.” “That’s not something that many communities encounter frequently, in my opinion. Hearing how others have responded in those ways has been quite overwhelming—in a positive way.”
